There are many benefits of Hospice Care
Comfort and support to the patient and their loved ones.
The goal of hospice care is to provide the highest possible quality of life for terminally diagnosed patients, as well as a support system for patients’ families. The inpatient hospice unit at Hebrew Hospital Home of Westchester accomplishes this by offering patients and their families the advantage of a warm, home-like environment combined with an array of on-site services. Our ability to provide on-site hospice treatment within our larger organization offers patients and families advantages over traditional home hospice or specialized institutions. Patients with terminal diagnoses can be provided with a consistent environment, avoiding the ordeal of being transferred to an acute facility. This alternative care setting offers patients a measure of dignity and control too often lacking with the patient’s physical condition and state of mind. Our multidisciplinary approach — carried out by teams of physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors and volunteers — is designed to address each family’s needs and desires, from specialized pain management and pastoral support for terminally ill patients, to family support and counseling. Other unique features and options include the ability to serve home-cooked meals, 24-hour visiting, lodging and transportation for family. Complementing traditional medical services are such alternative therapies as reflexology, music, art and pet therapy.
